Positive mental attitude through poetry:

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win but think you can't
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost.
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellows' will.
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You've got to think high to rise;
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

Good morning it is 5:32 AM here in So. Cal.

I am always looking for new and creative ways to remain positive regardless of the world around me. This poem is by an unknown author but it is included in the book Think and Grow Rich. I have a woman with a very attractive voice that I have tape various things for me to listen to and this one of the items on the tapes. (well now they are burned onto cds). I beleive the simple memorization of things like this helps people. As long as you dont try using this as the sole method of creating PMA you have little to no risk.

The reason I use it is to have something positive in my mind to offset all the negativity we have around us not only on the internet, but on television and the radio and newspapers. We have so much negative that I use forced positive mindfeeding all the time.

Dave, the thing I dont like about motivation is when I go onto a site and I feel like I am in a shopping center. I hit the site and bam I get hit with a pop-up.

I then get bombarded with stuff the person is selling.

I didnt like it. Any others you like?

I want people around me that are at least at my level. People that are blessed enough to not have to ram products down anyones throat.

Again just my opinion. I will send her an email with some questions I have for her.

Do you know her well Dave?

Here is the email I sent to her.

Michelle, I was referred to you site by Mr. Positive, would you be willing to answer some questions so I can find out more about you as a person? I just have 10 or 12 questions to ask. Would that be ok?

I have never read (or heard of) the book Think and Grow Rich.

Although I am not filthy rich, I have more than plenty. Hardwork, passion and luck have payed off in my life.

My advice: Do what you love, what gives you happiness and passion. Work hard everyday. Think less about growing rich and more about growing happiness and the money will magically follow.

"My advice: Do what you love, what gives you happiness and passion. Work hard everyday. Think less about growing rich and more about growing happiness and the money will magically follow."

It sounds good but keeping people from wanting to be financially well off is next to impossible.

Happiness alone:
I dont agree with happiness alone creating financial wealth. I think that Jesus, Gandi and Mother Teresa were pretty happy people doing what they loved. But their Financial wealth was not that strong.

Doing what you love:
I do agree with you that doing what you love is very important. In think and grow rich (the tapes and not the book) he speaks about being involved in a labor of love.

Work hard everyday:
My gardener works 7 days a week and loves what he does and has very little money. So it doesnt work exactly in all cases.

I try to ask much as possible stay away from simplistic answers because often those can cause the most problems for a person.

What do you think meg?

Hey Tom, I first read Think and Grow rich the first time I was in college in 1992. Thanks to your enthusiam, am going to dust it off tonight and have another look.

As for you other comments, I heartily agree with your conviction that being in a positve frame of mind is vital to our success. I wanted to give you a couple references in case you might be interested.. 'What The Bleep Do We Know'DVD, 'Create Your Day' DVD, and 'The Power of Now' book by Eckardt Tolle.

I think you might like those. Especially the book. It gave me the catch phrase "I'll see it when I believe it" and so far.. it works!

I am glad that I inpired you.

"if are related, so through these pages we have met"

Funny you should say that. Those are great movies and the "what the bleep" was made by the same people that made The secret. (it is the movie version of think and grow rich) Here is a link to see the entire movie free.

http://www.thescienceofgettingrich.biz/

I am going to look into the other ones you mentioned as well. I have heard there is a new what the bleep that has a free link someplace as well.

I was very blessed after using think and grow rich in a very hardcore fashion and then I became complacent. I now share the ideas to remind me to reuse them. I care far more about helping others now. When I read the book it was just to see how much money I could make. Now I care about seeing how much I can give back.

To quote someone in an old tv show, "I'm giving her all I can, captain. Trying my best in what sometimes seems like the worst of times. I guess all bad times are the worst of times, at least for that moment.

hello O:)

thank you for the comment. I have to say yours is the first one I have gotten.

Truthfully, I don't find my writings to be all that interesting, nor did I expect other people to, but it has given me a chance to collect the events in my life and write what I have learned from them, good or bad. This way, if ever I find myself lost, I catch myself with my own words.

But I do love your "positivity" if I may. And I am curious: are you a writer or an entrepreneur?

Pissed I think that you might want to change your name to.

Persistently pleasant patricia?

Positive Patricia?

Prodigious Patricia?

The name might change the thoughts and the thoughts might change the action and the action might change the feeling. Maybe?

ash, in the city of las vegas it is very challenging to remain positive that is why I left the msg.

Thank you for your kind words.

"And I am curious: are you a writer or an entrepreneur?"

More of the second than the first. If I was a writer I would be here trying to sell something. I guess you could call me a charitable entrepreneur.

Well my first response is if you can REALLY afford to hire a gardener then why are you worrying about money?

Of course most people want to be financially well off. It's superimposed into most Americans genes. In fact the government almost guarantees some sort of financial success to those intelligent enough or lucky enough (or both) to capture their piece of the pie. Think how over-loaded the welfare system would be without this burning desire.

Of course there are many ways to measure wealth, financial being only one of them. For example if a man is $$$ wealthy but totally sucks at being a father then his true wealth is far less.

One thing I have learned is that people preoccupied with wealth building never quite get there. They are like awkward zitty teenagers. Sure they eventually may even have a huge portfolio of real estate and stock and cash, but in their minds they never have enough. And they never learn to really live and enjoy life to its fullest.

I agree when you say "I try to stay away from simplistic answers because often those can cause the most problems for a person." Very very true.

Tom, I love the poem! I read dome of the comments. I will tell you my Mantra for life - "Happiness is a choice". Seems simplistic, maybe it is. But it works for me. I do what I love for a career. I am not rich but if being rich involves denying my passion, my faith, my soul, I do not want financial wealth. I work because I need to pay my bills. I do everything else because is fills my spirit. I do agree with you about the pop up thing and the eternal sales pitch... on pop up and I am on to another site! Money vs. Happiness - I choose happiness every time. Occasionally they are parallel. Occasionally they are one. Good luck in your pursuit. I will be back to read more...

Hi Tom, just want to say thanks for bringing Think and Grow Rich to life.

" I was checking your blog something came to my mind, and is that some people are gifted.
Some people can really change lives and share that blessing wich life has given to you.
You are one of those and you have been given that gift."

While others authors of self help books leave you in the dark after you have read their books, Napoleon Hill has proven that TGR can be follow day by day and put in to practice and apply the principles into our liVES, some people may think that Think and Grow Rich is all about money? why measure riches in dollars alone?
There are others forms of riches more desirables than money.
Westbrook pegler decribed, in the New York WorlD telegram, viz:

"Money is only clam shells or metals discs or scraps of paper, and there are treasures of the heart and soul which money cannot buy, but most peolpe been broke, are unable to keep this in mind and sustain their spirits"

(page 337 original copy OF THINK AND GROW RICH)

Ella Wheeler Wilcox gave evidence that thoughts can bring you back what you desire in life:
She wrote:
"You never can tell what a thought will do
In bringing you hate or love
For thoughts are things, and their airy wings
Are swifter than carrier doves.
They follow the law of the universe--
Each thing create it's kind,
And they speed O'er the track to bring you back
Whatever went out from your mind"
(page 295 original 1937 copy first ed, THINK AND GROW RICH)
sO ANYONE CAN DREAM OF ANYTHING IN LIFE IT'S FREE.
just a though!!!

Keep it up Tom!!!

You know, I am a Hindu. In Hinduism ( as with Buddhism - which is a derivative of Hindu philosophy) - it is said - the only way to attain true enduring happiness - is to let go. Let go of those very material things that our mind is attracted to. Yoga is one way to achieve it. Its not easy to let go. But the true yogi attains peace and happiness by not letting external factors influence the mind.

Just a thought.

meg- "Well my first response is if you can REALLY afford to hire a gardener then why are you worrying about money?"

I am not. I have been greatly blessed in business. I use the book for other aspirations and more to help other people than myself.

bkid-"I will tell you my Mantra for life - "Happiness is a choice""

That gives a starting point. If you believe that it is a choice you are far better off than thinking you dont have a choice. Enjoying what you do is very important.

carlos - Thank you for your kid words.

neuro - Yoga has some great elements to it. Yoga is a great form of relaxation and is able to bring down your heart rate. By doing this it releases stress and anxiety. By doing this it can reduce risks for heartattacks.

Hill- thanks.

pud - I will look that poem up.

Odre- thanks.
